SLEEP Announces New Tour Dates

March 21, 2011

Legendary stoner rock band SLEEP has just announced a string of summer North American tour dates. On the heels of its sold-out U.S. tour run last September, the California trio will return to the stage this summer by popular demand. Live dates in New York City (June 22) and Los Angeles (June 26) will bookend an appearance at the Sled Island Music & Arts Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on June 24, where the group will share the stage with THE DANDY WARHOLS, BLONDE REDHEAD, THE BUZZCOCKS and more.

SLEEP tour dates:

June 22 - New York, NY - Terminal 5
June 24 - Calgary, AB - Sled Island Festival
June 26 - Los Angeles, CA - The Wiltern

Once referred to as "the ultimate stoner rock band", SLEEP evolved in the early 1990s and has exerted a considerable, consistent influence on modern heavy music ever since. The group split in 1997 after the release of two hugely influential albums — "Holy Mountain" and "Dopesmoker" — returning triumphantly in 2009 when it performed two U.K. shows as part of All Tomorrow's Parties' (ATP) The Fans Strike Back festival, playing "Holy Mountain" in its entirety along with selections from "Dopesmoker". The rabid fan response to the 2009 shows resulted in a run of U.S. live dates in September 2010 that immediately sold out. In celebrating the band's return, The New York Times referred to the trio as "excellent" and the Chicago Tribune called SLEEP "stoner-rock titans."
